5 Reasons Why Technology Sucks
Why Technology Sucks

Here is our list of 5 reasons why technology sucks, in no particular order

1) Technology Sucks Because it Robs Our Children

Why Technology Sucks

Back in the day, it was all about face to face experiences. These are the things that helped shape our social skills and made us human. Unfortunately, with platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, cellphone texting, video games and the upcoming MetaVerse, kids are becoming more and more detached. Virtual experiences have already taken over real-life experiences and it will only get worse. Parents need to step in and set limits. We are certainly at a tipping point socially

2) It’s Expensive!

Why Technology Sucks

The cost of a new cell phone in the 2020s is astronomical and most of us do not even use 20% of our device’s actual capabilities. The same goes for desktop, laptop and tablet computers. Do a little research and only purchase a device which has the requirements you need. Overkill technology kills your bank account

3) Technology Sucks Because It Isolates Us

Why Technology Sucks

Recent polling data reveals that an alarming increase in time spent isolated with technology exists in adults and children alike. Some adults report that they spend up to 8 hours a night playing video games, watching You Tube videos and surfing the web. This increase in time spent isolated could be correlated with the rise in divorce rates. Sorry but if my spouse was playing video games for 8 hours every night instead of spending quality time with his family, he’d be getting a legal notice from an attorney!

4) Security Threats

Most people think that by having an anti-virus program such as Norton, they are magically protected from all online threats. Wrong! There are multiple ways for cyber thieves to get your payment and/or personal information while they laugh at your anti-virus software. Your best bet is to be vigilant when you’re active online. Change your passwords often and NEVER give out your credit card information to any website you’re unfamiliar with. Landing on a Russian website can and will lead to bad things. Look out for sites or emails ending in .ru (instead of .com)

5) Technology Sucks Because it Divides Us

Ok, unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last few years, you know how the rise of disinformation and censorship on social media (and televised media) has divided us in the United States. Outside influences as well as politically motivated groups within America have sought to sway us in one way or another. It is not the purpose of this article to square the blame on any particular party or organization. We are merely pointing out that it exists. Yes, disinformation was prevalent in the form of printed media for hundreds of years but it was never to this extent. The constant bombardment of conflicting facts is clearly proof that we need to use our own critical thought to figure things out. Question everything!

Technology Sucks Because it Takes Away our Privacy

With the advancement in technology, our privacy has taken a huge hit. Our personal data is stored in various online platforms and with a single breach, all our sensitive information can be compromised. The usage of facial recognition software by governments and big tech companies is another example of how technology is taking away our privacy. We are being watched and monitored constantly, and it feels like we are living in a surveillance state. It’s time to start taking our privacy seriously and demand better data protection laws.

In conclusion, while technology has made our lives easier in many ways, it’s important to acknowledge the negative impacts it has had as well. From addiction to privacy concerns, we need to be aware of technology’s downsides and use it responsibly. Ultimately, it’s up to us to limit our screen time and use technology in moderation to maintain a healthy balance in our lives.
